Pier Guidi, James Calado and Ferrari have secured their second consecutive FIA
Endurance World Championship title. The result came at the end of the 8 Hours
of Bahrain, won by team-mates Miguel Molina and Antonio Fuoco in the #52 AF
Corse Ferrari. The season ended with a victory for the Prancing Horse, bringing
the 2022 LMGTE PRO World Endurance Championship to a close in the best possible
way. During its years of service, the Ferrari 488 GTE has reached the top of
its class four times, with constructors' titles in 2016, 2017, 2021 and 2022.
Its crew of James Calado and Alessandro Pier Guidi have built on its
performance and brought their driving skills to the table, finishing as
drivers' world champions three times in 2017, 2021 and 2022. In a symbolic
move, the Ferrari 488 GTE is retiring after years of success and triumph,
giving Ferrari its sixteenth World Endurance Championship title.
IN
SUMMARY: The race was full of twists and turns, with two hours
to go the #52 of Fuoco and Molina took the lead while the #51 of Calado
suffered a gearbox problem. Crossing the chequered flag in 1st place for the
#51 and 5th place for the #52, the title was then assured. Calado & Pier
Guidi were crowned drivers' world champions, Ferrari constructors' world
champions, Fuoco & Molina finished 3rd in the championship with this
victory.
